About the Name "BQueen Collection"
Share
We are asked a lot where the name BQueen Collection comes from, and we are always happy to share the meaning behind it.
Throughout my childhood and continuing through adulthood, I have been called "Boo Queen," or "Boo" for short by my family and closest friends. No one can really remember how the nickname started, but there are several notes and letters signed off "Boo Queen, Queen of All the Boos" from when I was very young. What a Boo is? Never had an idea, but I just knew I was the Queen of them.
Unrelated but also throughout my childhood, us four siblings grew up playing chess. My sister and I played the most, and we would make extremely diluted French Vanilla Cafe instant coffee in a fancy tea set. Whether my heightened analytical mind came from playing chess, or if that's why I enjoy it so much - I am unsure.
Fast forward to a few years ago, when I knew I wanted to be a business owner and sell something I made from my already well-established yarn stash. While on a family trip, my siblings again helped me come up with the idea of BQueen, and the sister I grew up playing chess with, insisted on adding "Collection." Then my oldest sister, a talented graphic designer, came up with my logo.
The name "BQueen Collection" is a combination of my childhood nickname "Boo Queen," and my love for chess and the rules of the game. When we first started making hooks, I knew I wanted them to be unique - and after I thought to resemble the design of chess pieces, it all fit perfectly.
The only true "chess" piece we make is our hooks with a Queen's crown. We have many other crown designs and creations, but the Queen will always be the symbol of our brand. The Queen chess piece is arguably the most powerful piece in the game, and I wanted a brand reputation that mirrored that boldness, yet still having the elegance of a Queen.
When I look at our Queen hooks, especially in African Blackwood, soundtracks of epic movies (think Lord of the Rings) play in my head. I see a majestic and enchanting symbol, atop a useful and practical tool. Sometimes my imaginative mind compares our most brilliant woods as a battle of Queen's in a far away land - The Black Queen, The Red Queen, and the White Queen. Maybe I'll write a story one day - I've always wanted to write a novel...
But until then, we've just created the Queen's Reign Set to satisfy my imagination.
So there is the story behind the name, the meaning behind the logo. Now when you see our wax seal with our logo, hold our hooks or squish our yarn, escape to a place of royalty and elegance, power and fearlessness.
