BLACK BOX Reveal: Adore

BLACK BOX Reveal: Adore

We are opening up our most recent Black Box Adore and sharing what we included in the box (mostly because we just get so dang excited about spilling the beans!) now that all of the boxes have been fully indulged upon by the recipients.

But first! Our NEXT Black Box Misbehaving is releasing March 29th at 9am MST. Sign up for the email reminder HERE.

That means if you're digging our luxury crochet kits and want in on the next Box, you need to set your alarm because these sell out fast! Remember - we only have 20 Boxes available, and each box has a special theme AND they include all of the materials needed (especially the hand-dyed fiber and BQueen Crochet Hook) to complete an entire project.

The Adore Black Box

HOOK

Our featured BQueen Collection Wood Crochet Hook for the Adore Black Box was a 6mm Tulipwood Crochet Hook. We are sad to say this Box featured our last Tulipwood crochet hooks, a prized exotic wood that has left the BQueen Collection due to export restrictions of Brazil. However, she went out with a bang and delivered the perfect unique orange accent to our Box. Tulipwood has fantastic grain lines and is a great, dense wood. The crown Brian designed is one of my personal favorites, and I think fit the Box perfectly.

DESIGNER + PROJECT

This was our first Box where we chose to go with a featured crochet designer, and we could think of no one better suited than our girlfriend Toni from TL Yarn Crafts. Using our fiber, created the Adore Shawl Crochet Pattern, an "asymmetric beauty that combines crochet mesh with hand dyed yarn for a romantic feel." The DK weight of the fiber combined with the light and open design makes this the perfect shawl as we crawl out from our winter hideouts in to the spring flowerbeds.

FIBER

The fiber for the Adore Box was DK 100% Superwash Merino and super soft. Each Box had three hanks (enough to complete the Adore Shawl) with 246 yards/100 grams each. The fiber was naturally dyed a very soft, ever so slightly variegated pink at the BQueen house with Quebracho Rojo, a natural extract found from a hardwood tree in Argentina.

FEATURED MAKERS

What actually inspired the color and contents of the Adore Box was this fabric from Kate Spain.

Our girl Katy from ModularModular got the fabric and created these adorable mini drawstring pouches, perfect for notions and all the little things us crafters seem to carry in our project bags. AND she always impresses me, including dark leather for the drawstring and a perfectly matched purple lining.

Let's #realtalk about embroidery scissors. Most claim to be "sharp" and "great for cutting, especially yarn" and yet I am consistently disappointed with most claims. However, let me introduce you to an out-of-this-world and now my favorite pair of scissors. Meet "Best Scissors in the World" from Etsy shop Angelika's Minis. They cut yarn like I've never seen before. I highly recommend these little scissors (and bonus, they come with a little protective sheath for the blades). Perfect size, fun colors. You won't be disappointed.

Who doesn't love alpacas? This adorable pin has been popping up all over, and I am obsessed with how perfect it is. Better than the pin was the amazing customer service and attention to detail that Roxana from Stencils and Crafts Inc provided. Every pin arrived in a little blue organza bag, which happened to perfectly match the Adore color theme. It's these kinds of details that make me so honored and proud to feature other makers in our Boxes.

I don't know about you but this winter season has my lips d-r-y. I didn't want just plain ol' lip balm, I wanted some color in my world! I found this tinted lip balm from a local business (like right down the street "local") Presta Goods LLC  and man, does it feel like heaven on my now moisture loving lips! I chose the Organic Mango Butter Lip Balm in the color Pretty in Pink for the Box. It's so smooth and the color is subtle enough but still gives a little color. They have tons of other colors and goodies, so be sure to check their shop out.

This Box was also a first for us as we pursued an international maker Knitting Minds World. Olesia not only matched our Box color but we had some serious delays in the package arriving in time (or at all), and she went above and beyond to make sure that these notebooks where here for when Adore shipped. These little notebooks were so cute and wonderfully done, with space inside for pattern notes. She also has tons of other cute products for the knitter/crocheter, and is a gem to work with. I highly recommend this maker.

A cute pink pencil from Curio Press with the statement "Work Hard Dream Big" was perfect and I think very well suited for the Box. I especially love that Curio Press is another husband and wife business, just like ours! Alexis also has cards, notepads, mugs and more.

Um, yeah. I actually did use a cosmetic container to hold the colorful stitch markers from Dyeabolical Yarns (so many colors to choose from!) needed for the project and totally fitting in the theme. Must I point out that it works perfectly - the size, the color, the functionality? If you need a container for small stitch makers, search cosmetic jars/pots! And who doesn't love bulb pin stitch markers??

And of course, our Black Boxes always come with something to eat and drink. This Box included a fun twirly pink lollipop and some Earl Grey tea. Yum!

Hello. I was wanting to give you of my feedback on the crochet hook I ordered. The length was perfect and it was so easy to use. I think the only issue I had was the design. I can’t really describe it. And I liked the wood as well. Thanks!
