Monthly Meet a Maker (MMAM): The Yarn Mamas
It's already that time again to feature another maker in our Meet a Maker series! This past month, I reached out to Krista from The Yarn Mamas for a feature because I am in love with her apparel.
Her tanks, tees, totes, and hoodies have been popping up everywhere and to my realization, I am severely lacking in my fiber related apparel.
But - let me tell you why Krista is actually super awesome: she's an animal lover, with three rescued dogs (and three kids!), and donates a portion of each sale back to animal rescue. If you're following me on Instagram, you may have seen my two dogs pop up here and there - and both are rescues. I am a firm believer in "adopt, don't shop" and would never get a dog any other way.
Her love for her pets, her real struggles of a being mom of three young kiddos with a small business to run, and her amazing personality make her someone I admire.
And let's be real - there are probably dozens of sellers of yarn apparel, but The Yarn Mamas is someone I can relate to, someone who really works her butt off in her business AND supports dog rescues. Win win win!
PERFECT TIMING with today being the First Day of Spring, The Yarn Mamas just released a new Spring line of tanks and tees in time for the summer weather that's creeping in. From the new line, I chose the "Maker" tank in Large (see that very pregnant belly I need to work around?) and I wanted something I could make, sleep, cook, chase dogs/toddlers around in while the weather heats up. It is so soft, lightweight, and casually and tastefully creative. I am already eyeballing her "Yarn Mama" Hoodie for after baby!

1. Tell us your name and a little about your business.
Hi, My name is Krista Cagle.I live in Pittsburgh Pa with my Husband, 3 kids and 2 rescue pups! I started my business in 2014 with my crochet blog Rescued Paw Designs and at the beginning of 2016 I decided to expand to sell tees for makers over at Yarn Mamas. With every purchase at Yarn Mamas a portion is donated to local animal shelters and rescues!
2. What do you love most about your product?
While I do love my tees and the message they send I mostly enjoy the community surrounding my product the most.
3. What is the hardest part of having your own business/selling handmade?
The hardest part for me is finding a work/life balance.. I have three small children and a husband who also need me so finding a healthy balance of being a good business owner and a mom / wife is something I am constantly trying to improve on.
4. What other makers inspire you?
I am inspired by so many makers in the community, but if I am to name a few they would be Jessica from Mama in a Stitch because her hand knitted / crocheted designs are modern, fun and so creative, Chelsea from Chelsea Crochet Photography with her amazing photographs and knitted designs, and finally Reshma from Hello Lavender with her hand painted signs and yarn creations!
5. What advice do you have for a handmade business just starting out?
Take it one day at a time, know your target market and go after it. Don’t give up!
